How to create outpost in chess [Smyslov vs Rudakovsky]

Today we will watch one of Smyslov’s games. He was a great chess player. In today’s game, we will look at how to create an outpost for knight and what should we do after creating outpost.

So first of all, we should know, what is an outpost and what are conditions where we can say we have an outpost.

So the outpost must be near the enemy’s territory.

It must be safe from pawn attack.

It must be protected.

If you can get this type of outpost then you will have a good grip on your opponent. For example, if you have a knight’s outpost on 6th rank then you can attack both side on the flank or on the kingside. Your knight will control a lot of squares on your enemy’s territory.

Enough theory let’s watch the game and see how he created an outpost for knight and used his outpost to attack the king.

Game: Smyslov vs Rudakovsky

Conclusion:

I hope you got the point and you should be able to create an outpost in your next game. good luck. :).
